I just realized, last night as I was putting together how to do this... are you on your phone? I don't think you can do it from your phone. Here's how to do it from your computer:
Open the Authortunities newsletter you want to search and then press Ctrl+F on your keyboard. This will bring up a small search box where you can enter in the emoji you are looking for. The program will then search through the entire document displaying any instances of the emoji you entered.
It isn't meant to move. It's the same as the text. You can take any word or emoji symbol and use it in your search function to jump specifically to those entries. It's actually a very low tech task that you can use on any document or webpage.
1. Copy the emoji you want to search for.
2. Tap Ctrl and the F key at the same time.
3. A small search bar will open up on your screen (probably in the upper right) with the emoji in the search space.
Already done. If you wonder how to do it that means there are probably 50 other people wondering but not brave enough to ask. I should be able to post it here in the comments.
What do you mean? There isn't anything to access. If you want to use them to search hit control + F and then paste the emoji you want to search into the field.
Any way you can do a search will work. If you use Mac, that might be different. On a Mac, you can use Command + F to perform a "Find" or search function across most applications.
RE: "Dale L. Roberts shares his first Substack video, “NEW Book Marketing Strategy: Virtual Book Fairs” to discuss a new eBook fair site." Sounds great, Angela, but this post is for paying subscribers only. :-(
Oh, darn! Thanks for letting me know! I am a paying subscriber so I didn't notice. He has some wonderful YouTube videos up. I'll substitute a different one.
Thank you. The 2nd publisher was a West Coast university press -- who insisted that one of their students do my cover art. The English Dept head saddled me with Jordan J., who could not draw the human figure nor draw a face. Jordan's "cover art" was a new low for Western Civilization.
I withdrew my ms in April 2024 from the university press . . . after a nine-month ordeal of ZOOM meetings with the entire English Dep't, numerous back-and-forths . . . yikes, the mental anguish is still hanging over me, Angela.
So now when I hear the term "university press," I break out in hives.
Angela, thunderous paint-shaking-from-the-ceiling applause for beginning your new term as President of HWA! Hubba-hubba!!!! And a werewolfian-full-moon HOWL! Also much appreciation + massive thanks for giving my illustrated collection "Always Haunted: Hallowe'en Poems" a shout-out.
open what? I have clicked on opening subs two dozen times. I have hit control F. Nothing happens!

I have never had a cellphone at all. Never!
The emoji thing will not move at all.

I will make a quick video for you.
Thank you for your assistance but do not bother with a video.
I made a video. This is something you can use in documents and websites almost everywhere. https://substack.com/profile/3191860-angela-yuriko-smith/note/c-77546205

Hi Angela, What's the latest on Space & Time fiction submissions? My story's been held for quite a while now.
Which issue did you submit to? #147 has been done for awhile. We are down to the last few on #148. I’ll go look for you.
Thanks. I subbed in June and got a hold email in August.
I think you know the answer to where your submission is now 🎉 Congratulations! We were just wrapping up our finalists.
Congrats! HWA President 👏👏👏👏👏
I cannot access the emoji things!

Tried numerous times. It is not working for me!

I cannot do it. I am extremely low tech.
Well, it’s not really tech at all. It’s just using a search with an emoji. I’ll try to do a video to show how with next week’s newsletter.

Hi, Angela, really wanted to see this post -- but anyway, I'll look for your follow-up - - thanks.
* * * Is the 3rd time the charm? After two disasters, my ms "Cancer Courts My Mother" has been accepted by a rational indie press.
I changed it out for another really good video on how to land paid speaking gigs.
Congratulations!!!!

I'm so sorry you had that experience!
Angela, do you remember that old routine where the phrase that triggered the man was "Niagara Falls"?
My trigger is now "university press" . . . . LOL

So much authorly goodness gathered in one place! *Bursts*
Just one more... wafer thin!
