What is Authortunities?
Authortunities is a collection of dates, times, and other information related to writing in an ongoing calendar made by authors for authors and organized by emoji for easy searchability.
Find paid opportunities, contests with prizes, awards submissions, workshops and grants. We include pertinent details in the description and confirm accuracy as much as we can.
We offer two weeks of the calendar for free, sent direct to your inbox every Saturday morning. If you find that two weeks isn't enough time then you can always subscribe to get another two weeks, giving you access to a full month of Authortunities, plus full access to Authortunities Extra and to the upcoming Authortunity University 2025.
Authortunities. / (au̯.tʰor.tjuːnɪtiz) / noun. A portmanteau of “author” and “opportunities,” referring to the various chances, prospects, and avenues available to writers for advancing their craft, publishing their work, and achieving success, in both the traditional and indie literary fields. Also, the passion project of Angela Yuriko Smith.
“I look forward to opening Authortunities on Saturday morning.”

Subscribing also gives you access to Authortunities Extra, an Authortunities related podcast where I interview special guests that can help you get published. We offer a few different plans where you can subscribe monthly, yearly, or even a lifetime membership! Join Authortunities, we are a growing community and if you find yourself short on time it might be worth it to subscribe and become a member now!
Who’s behind this?
I started Authortunities out of frustration. I’d find things I wanted to submit work to, but while I was writing something for later I’d miss something that closed sooner. I started keeping a list of what I wanted to submit to, sorted by date. Later I discovered the superpower of ctrl+F and I added emojis. This worked so well for me I thought I’d share with you.
My name is Angela Yuriko Smith, and I’m a third-generation Ryukyuan-American poet, author, and I publish Space and Time magazine (established in 1966!). A two-time Bram Stoker Awards® Winner and HWA Mentor of the Year, I currently serves as an HWA Trustee, coach authors and share Authortunities.
