Milestone—100 issues of Authortunities...! What's Next?
Authortunities #100 │February 8 — March 8
🎉Help me celebrate! No paywall for Authortunities #100!!
I launched this newsletter on March 14, 2023, with 438 free subscribers from my mailing list. Now, almost two years later, we’re a thriving community of 3,653 subscribers—including 💜100 paid members—and growing every week. Every Saturday, without fail, I’ve shown up in your inbox, and you’ve shown up for me.
I started Authortunities because I kept hearing from other authors that I needed a newsletter, but it quickly became the highlight of my week. I love writing this. I love connecting with you. Over time, I’ve seen this newsletter do more than share opportunities—it has transformed careers. Some of my favorite moments? Celebrating those first sales from submissions found right here.
But this isn’t just a newsletter anymore. What began as a simple writer’s community calendar has evolved into something bigger—a real community. The Authortunities Hub is now a thriving space where writers lift help each other to get published. And next week, we take our next big step: opening the Publishing Coach Certification Program to everyone. The waiting list is now open.
Together, we’re not just writing—we’re getting published. We’re making stories happen. We’re resisting with art. We are lifting each other up.
And what’s a celebration without cake? Tomorrow I’ll be lighting candles, not just for 100 issues but for us—for this movement we’ve built together. This means more to me than my own birthday. I grow old by default. But this newsletter? It has grown because of you.
Thank you. 💙
🌳In the NeighborHub
It’s been a tough week for many of us. According to the Official Authortunities Hub Author Astrologist Nikki DeKeuster from
it’s because “Chiron squaring Mars in Retrograde right now is a basket and a half of tension, energy draining BS, and triggers galore.” All I can say is… I get by with a little help from my friends.Looking for friends? Join us in the NeighborHub.
🌳Authortunities Press-ing Matters
News! We are still busy reading through Space and Time submissions, but while that’s happening it looks like the magazine is expanding to cover a monthly Space and Time Flash publication here on Substack. We will be paying for Flash Fiction and poetry, and this new publication will be a chance for guest editors to learn how to put together a magazine on their own. Can we have too much art in the world? I say no.
We just got the last contract in for the 14 Spooky Stories for Boys and Girls call, so payments will be going out this weekend.
Open call Coven of the East: Reclaiming Asian Women’s Magical Histories is open until Feb 29th for fiction and nonfiction pieces that explore the intersection of magic, identity, and history. Payment is $0.08 per word (pro-rates) for pieces up to 1,200 words. I’m editing this with Pauline Chow. Submit your work here.
