Next Thursday, March 13, Authortunities Turns Two! 🎉
Two years ago, this newsletter was just a humble paper mailing list on a clipboard of 438 people. Today, nearly 4,000 subscribers receive hand-picked author opportunities every Saturday morning—almost 100 weeks straight! It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m beyond grateful for your support.
A Birthday Makeover 🎨
Just like people, newsletters evolve. To celebrate this milestone, I consulted with Nan Tepper of on how to refine Authortunities' look and feel.
As a result the logo has been simplified from the full Authortunities Press pen tree to a sleek single-leaf pen. The headers got a fresh glow-up, along with some color updates and the website has been revamped—with more polish coming soon!
New Monthly Digital Tools for Writers 📌
Thanks to your enthusiastic response to my first digital offer, I’ll be launching a new digital tool every month! For March, I have the Lo-Tech Social Media Sanity System—a streamlined approach to content planning.
For just $8.88, you’ll get:
📌 A tutorial video
📌 A social media calendar spreadsheet template
📌 A Canva art template to create your own post art
📌 Step-by-step instructions for solo writers or teams
Bonus: I might wrap up the month with a live workshop to build our systems together! Grab your copy here for $8.88.
🔹 Paid subscribers will receive all digital tools free as a thank-you gift for your support!
A Necessary Price Adjustment (for New Subscribers) 📈
After two years of steady growth, it’s time for a small adjustment. Starting March 15, the subscription price for new members will increase to $8.88/month or $88.88/year.
🔹 Current subscribers remain locked in at $5.55/month—no change for you!
🔹 If you want to lock in the $5.55 rate, sign up before March 15! I’ll send a reminder email soon.
Looking Ahead 🚀
What’s next? My immediate goal is to gain 182 more subscribers so I can officially say "4,000" without the “almost.” 😂 Beyond that, my focus is on increasing the value of what I offer to you.
Authortunities has grown from a simple newsletter into:
🌱 A free NeighborHub community
📚 A thriving Publishing Coach service on Reedsy
🎓 A Publishing Coach Certification program to create more coaches
I’m excited for what’s to come, and it’s all thanks to you, the Authortunities family. Here’s to another amazing year of growth, connection, and opportunities!
What do you think of our make over? Let me know in the comments!
Neighborhoods have block parties, and neighborHubs have Writers Block Parties! Still confirming guests, but on March 21 everything kicks off on Substack Live with the Godfather of Self-Publishing himself, . The theme for this party is “The Business of Writing,” so the goal will be giving writers real tools they can use to build an income and (hopefully) pay for more eggs.

From Space and Time Magazine: most of the fiction submissions for our Autumn issue #149 has been read by two Readers now. Our Poetry Editor Extraordinaire, aka Linda D. Addison, is narrowing in on her selections. Our Brilliant Layout and Artist Anthony R. Rhodes is creating another masterpiece for the upcoming #148 that should be published this April. I’ve seen the art and our illustrators have outdone themselves. The cover art is from Arthur Haywood and it’s warm, hopeful and magical all at once.
The upcoming Space and Time Flash is still in the organizing stage. The idea behind this monthly online offspring of Space and Time is to offer it as an introduction to publishing. Working on edits for 14 Spooky Stories for Boys and Girls. Pauline Chow and I have our invited stories in and are now reading through submissions for Coven of the East: Reclaiming Asian Women’s Magical Histories.
Get FREE sci-fi & fantasy ebooks featuring fierce heroines who defy the odds! Magic, mayhem, & power await—are you ready? Claim your books now!
I have a story in this one! Claw Machine: The Anthology is live on Kickstarter! This thrilling collection of speculative fiction grips you with tales of luck, fate & claw machines that take more than they give. Back it now & claim your prize!
Tariffs aren’t affecting just food prices. Food for thought, aka books, are also going to be affected. Libraries are already priceless, but they may become even more vital. Read what Publisher’s Weekly has to say: “The Book Business Prepares for Tariff Turmoil”
